Luke Skywalker’s adventures on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes back were inspired by the Russian/Japanese film Dersu Uzala. The run on the Death Star at the end of the first film was based on the World War II drama The Dam Busters. C-3PO and R2-D2 were famously inspired by the hapless peasants in The Hidden Fortress. From the very beginning, Star Wars has taken its inspiration from other stories. ![]()
